Biography 

Global Business Leader. Emerging Market Expert.Born in England, Ian Watson made a name for himself in the telecommunications space in the last 26 years. He currently holds a number of key executive positions within the Royal Group of Companies, the largest conglomerate in the Kingdom of Cambodia, reporting directly to the Chairman of the Board. As Group Chief Executive for the cluster of companies under the Communications and Technology Division, Ian holds oversight responsibility for the businesses in mobile network operation, mobile commerce, broadcasting, internet service, satellite cable network, mobile lottery and mobile MFI. In addition to these 7 companies, Ian sits on the Board of Wing Holdings Pte Ltd in Singapore and Wing Cambodia Ltd as Executive Board Director. Following the successful turnaround of Wing Cambodia, Ian was appointed CEO for Cellcard in July 2012 and Group CEO for the Communications & Technology. Before moving to Cambodia to set up Refresh Mobile, the first provider of virtual commerce platforms, Ian was Chief Operating Officer of Texas-based Company, Iris Wireless, for 5 years. Previous to this, he held starting out as Head of Sales & Distribution to Group CCO for Orange Asia. His last held post was COO for Orange PCS Ltd. For 3 years, between 1994 and 1997, Ian was the Vice President of Operations for Brightpoint Inc. He started out as the Materials Manager for JCB Excavators and stayed with them for 6 years. Ian is a sharp businessman, forward-thinker and known to many as a powerful negotiator. He has a quiet but decidedly strong influence in the industry, cutting across borders. He is a respected leader, lauded by past and present colleagues for his unshakable drive to succeed. He is someone who can craft a worthwhile vision and deliver beyond expectations. Ian is an MBA graduate and currently resides both in Cambodia and the UK.

Abstract 

Cellcards’ strategy to provide affordable access to mobile data has spearheaded a sharp rise in mobile data penetration across the country. Cellcard took the bold move in January and again in February to launch the most generous data offers ever seen in Cambodia. Together with the large-scale investment in rolling out 4G LTE across the country, the results are starting to show. Data users have risen 34%, data consumption has more than doubled and independent speed tests show Cellcard networks speeds far outweigh the competitors in both urban and rural.
